4th grade students were interpreting the paintings "Self portrait with Dr. Juan Farill," "Portrait of Luther Burbank," and "Roots," by Frida Kahlo.
Our focus was, "How artists portray connections to the cycle of life or connections to past and present".
First students designed and then created a drawing of their family on paper.
Next students made contour self portrait on transparency sheet.
They then combined the two works of art.
The artwork is held together with black construction paper frame, not shown.
